PRAYER

WEEKEND

WHAT IS A PRAYER WEEKEND?

"Meanwhile, we'll stick to our assigned tasks of prayer and speaking God's Word."

Acts 6:4, MSG

Essentially, a prayer weekend is about two things:

#1: ASKING

The direction of the Apostles wasn't just something that they picked, willy-nilly. Their direction came from God,

which was why they had to spend so much time in their "assigned task" of prayer (see the verse above). It's also why they spent time speaking God's Word.

They asked God what HE wanted them to do, and they did it. It really was that simple.

#2: LISTENING

If prayer for you is a one-sided conversation of just telling God stuff, then you've missed one of the most critical and beautiful things about prayer.

Prayer is just as much about HEARING from God as it is about talking to Him. The side effect of keeping prayer one-sided is that it always

ends up leading to prayerlessness. What keeps us coming back for more is when He speaks.

PRAYER / PEOPLE / PERSPECTIVE

It's a famous statement: prayer changes things. But how?

Over the course of our 40 or so hours together, we're going to pray onsight with insight, using one of America's darkest spiritual cities to discover

how God might want you to engage YOUR city with prayer.

WE'LL PRAY, AND ASK GOD TO SHOW US HIS HEART FOR SPRINGFIELD.

WE'LL PRAY, AND ASK HIM FOR DIVINE APPOINTMENTS WITH PEOPLE DURING OUR TIME HERE.

WE'LL LISTEN TO WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING, AND IN LIGHT OF GOD'S HEART, GAIN PERSPECTIVE ON A WAY FORWARD IN THE DARKNESS.

That's what this weekend is all about.

WEEKEND SCHEDULE

The prayer weekend kicks off at 6:00pm on Friday, August 9, 2024, with dinner being held at Pioneer Valley Christian Academy (PVCA),

located at 965 Plumtree Road in Springfield.  After dinner, around 6:30pm, we'll worship God in song together, before providing

a time of orientation and training for what happens on Saturday.

Saturday, August 10 will be spent visiting various areas of the city to engage people in conversation and prayer.

Through these engagements, we will listen for what God might be saying through people, but we'll also pray for these people, too.

Saturday afternoon, we'll come back together to hear what God did in the day.

The weekend concludes with our normal Sunday morning service, at 10:00am at PVCA.
